Brenda
Barton Health Technology, Choffin Career and Technical Center
Before joining the College Tech Prep teaching staff, Brenda
worked for eight years at Warren's St. Joseph Health Center-Eastland,
where she was a technical supervisor and medical technologist
and was responsible for teaching medical laboratory technician
students from Youngstown State University. She also worked
for three years as a medical laboratory technician at Medical
Center Hospital in Conroc, Texas. A graduate of YSU with
a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree, Brenda
is a certified medical technologist and emergency medical
technician. In May 1998, her health technology team placed
first in state competition in the Allied Health category.
Steve
Bennett Information Technology - Networking, Mahoning County
Career and Technical Center
Steve graduated from Miami University with a bachelor's
degree in business administration. He worked for several
years in the business sector-as an NCR systems analyst working
on operating systems and programming in assembly language,
an NCR account representative, and an NCR industry analyst
coordinating product release and development of future systems.
As president of Bentco Inc., (his own company), he developed
and implemented a plan to offer third party maintenance
for retailers throughout the United States. Prior to joining
the College Tech Prep staff, Steve was a computer and business
communications teacher at MCCTC.
Melissa
Hackett Information
Technology - Interactive
Multi-Media, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
Mrs. Hackett holds a Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University
and has done graduate work at Kent State University. She
has been teaching at the Mahoning County Career and Technical
Center for the past 13 years.
Teresita Hartz Business Technology, Choffin Career and
Technical Center
Teresita began her teaching career with the Youngstown City
Schools at Choffin Career Center in 1974. For the next 19
years she taught high school accounting and office management.
In 1993 Teresita transferred to the Adult Education Department
at Choffin where she taught diversified office technology
until she joined the College Tech Prep business technology
program. She earned both her bachelors and masters degrees
from Youngstown State University and has done graduate work
at four different universities. Her work experience includes
work at YSU, Butler County Community College, and for a
small accounting firm. She believes College Tech Prep is
an excellent opportunity for students interested in business
careers as a stepping-stone to the university. She feels
strongly that College Tech Prep is "the piece of the
puzzle" that will allow motivated students to be successful.
Beth
Hickson Information Technology - Networking, Choffin Career and
Technical Center
Beth is a graduate of Youngstown State University. Before
joining the College Tech Prep staff, Beth taught computer
classes to adults at the Choffin Career and Technical Center.
She has also worked at the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.
Beth has been trained in the Cisco Networking Program and
states that she loves the hands-on instruction used in teaching
computer networking. She feels that this makes it easier
to understand and fun for students to learn.
Helen
Slack Information Technology - Information Services and
Support, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
Helen is an Information Technology instructor at MCCTC.
She has also served as a Business Education instructor
at Kent State University where she taught a variety of
business and computer courses. Other professional positions
include work as a technology coordinator and computer
instructor at Lordstown School district and Business and
Office Technology instructor at the Trumbull County Career
and Technical Center. Helen earned a Master of Science
in Education and a Bachelor of Business Administration
in Computer Science as well as a vocational education
certificate from Kent State University. She feels that
College Tech Prep is the "gateway to opportunities"
that will allow students to achieve their educational
goals.
Mary Ann Thoburn Information Technology - Interactive
Multi-Media, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center
Mrs. Thoburn
has been teaching printing and desktop publishing for
the past 16 years, the last three at the Mahoning County
Career and Technical Center. Prior to teaching at MCCTC
Mrs. Thoburn worked for ten years in industry as a printing
production manager and as a printer.
