The
Office of Associate Degree and Tech Prep Programs sponsor
a number of activities and programs for students in grades
5-8. The purpose of these activities and programs is to expose
students to math, science, and technology concepts and to
increase awareness of careers in technology.
Young
Entrepreneurs Program
Students in grades 5-9 enrolled in Youngstown City and Warren
City Schools are eligible to participate in the Young Entrepreneurs
Program (YEP). This program is designed to teach middle school
students the basics of starting and operating their own micro-business.
YEP
aims to:

young entrepreneurs the fundamentals of starting and operating
their own small business

Encourage young entrepreneurs to continue their education
beyond high school

Boost young entrepreneurs’ self-esteem

Teach young entrepreneurs the importance of setting goals,
hard work and perseverance

Teach young entrepreneurs to become better consumers
The
middle school program operates as a summer camp – BIZ
FUNdamentals Camp. BIZ FUNdamentals Camp is an intensive one-week
program that teaches students in grades 5-9 the fundamentals
of starting and operating their own micro-business through
formal lectures, guest speakers, and activities. The week-long
program culminates in a business plan competition where students
present their business ideas as a basic business plan before
a panel of judges for a prize.
Northeast
Ohio Robotics Competition
The Northeast Ohio Robotics Competition (NEORC) is an academic
program that provides middle school students with a "hands-on"
applied learning experience for approximately 8 weeks and
culminating in a contest in January of each year.
