As an employer, you know the value of good technical training. Chances are you have experienced difficulty in filling positions that required technical skills. Work-based learning opportunities can make your worksite a laboratory that offers students real-world context and technical training. What is College Tech Prep?

  • College Tech Prep is a college bound educational opportunity that combines advanced training in today and tomorrow’s technologies, and the academic foundation students need to succeed in college.
  • It begins in the 11th grade and continues through an associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • College Tech Prep is a two-year college preparatory program.
  • Students get the same core academic courses (communications, math, and science) that a traditional college prep curriculum would offer.
  • College Tech Prep emphasizes project-based learning, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving in an applied learning environment.
  • High school juniors and seniors take specialized technical coursework at central sites in Mahoning
    County, along with college prep academic classes at their home school.
  • College Tech Prep courses are half day.
    Students take their college prep courses at their home school, where they can participate in sports, clubs, and other extra-curricular activities.
  • They earn their diploma and graduate from their home school. Students must meet the graduation requirements of home schools.

Partnerships

  • College Tech Prep makes business and industry full partners in the educational process. As partners, you are involved in planning College Tech Prep programs and curricula.
  • Through internships, mentoring, job-shadowing, and other work-based learning opportunities, you provide real-world experiences to students and also get to know prospective employees.
